HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUNTIE!!!

Auntie Doris has been like a mother to me for the past many years. She's always so kind, cheerful and unselfish. She's always giving what she thinks is the best for her family. However, sometimes, the girls just don't understand. Grow up girls! Auntie, you have my support and repsect!
So many thanks for all the breakfasts, lunches and dinners!!

Around 3 weeks back, it was Auntie Doris' birthday.2 of her daughters, Mandy and Melissa decided to get her a special birthday cake this year. Instead of just a normal round chocolate birthday cake with 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM' written on it, they bought cupcakes from Paisley N Cream ( Central@ Clark Quay). 5 Tiramisu cupcakes, and Elmo, Cookie monster and Oscar. Supposedly to means 53 years old. But apparently the girls got the age mixed up, and it is supposed to be only 52! the main thing is the dinner we had at a Chinese restaurant at Boon Keng Road. Ban Heng restaurant 萬興大酒樓. Blk 22 Boon Keng Road #01-21. The whole family was there except for Michelle. She was busy preparing her overseas stuff. She bought a Polo Ralph Lauren shirt for her though. Oh sh*t, i still havent get her 'THE PRESENT'...

LOH AH... HUAT AH...

Juicy goose meat. Slurp..

The fish that cost EXTRA $20. Not worth it at all. My mom can do better than this. And the fish is so small...

Cabbage, mushrooms, sliced carrots and Fa Chai

Just prawns. Nothing special.

The shy Yam Paste hiding at the background. Tastie yam paste.

The birthday girl

Tiramisu cupcake

Who wants a cookie from cookie monster?

Elmo Elmo Elmo

Oscar, will you please look at the camera?

Just FYI, your lips, tongue and  mouth will be the colour of the cupcake that you eat. I ate cookie monster, and my lips are blue...

Rating: 7.5/10
It's rather expensive for this kind of quality. Averaged out to around $45(excluded the cupcakes) per person.

Sometime back in 2008, Michelle and I decided (out of the sudden) to tour China Tour. We think that maybe we should know more about Singapore and so we head down to China Town, acted like 2 tourists, taking pictures along the way, tried the food as we are  sightseeing.

We started our tour from Outram Mrt. There's a temporary hawker centre behind the MRT exit, opposite SGH . We tried steamed fish head. That's was our 5th time eating this. But sometimes from different stalls. Basically, all tasted roughly the same. But i think the hawker centre is already gone. The stalls have all moved back to the original hawker centre.

Then we tried desserts in Mei Heong Yuen Dessert. 65-67 Temple street. Famous for their mango with pomelo and sago. Michelle wanted to tried her favourite Yam Paste. Her wish is finally granted. Prices ranging from $2 to $3.50 for their patries and desserts.

Mango with pomelo and sago. Mango cubes and pomelo in mango juice and crushed ice. Just what i need in a hot and humid afternoon. Too small for $3.50 though.

Yam Paste. Cant remember how it tasted like. But i recall her saying that it quite good. Smooth yam paste.

Pigeons love to loiter around in this shop's entrance. No idea. Maybe MORE BIRDS MORE LUCK?

Summary for that day: Chinese history and cultures are just too broad for anyone to really understand. So what we can do is, appreciate what we have now while the cultures are still there...

This apply to kind of relationship. Parents love, GF or BF love, friends' love or sibilings' love. Appreciate them. Appreciate their love for you... Appreciate their presence...

Legend Food Pte Ltd is located  at Toa Payoh Lorong 8, block 211. No air-con. Coffee shop style. But reservation is required. Queue is simply unbelievable.
They serve all sorts of seafood, from crabs to shellfish and abalone.

I was here last year in august and totally forgot about blogging it. This does not means that their food are bad. The seafood are simply fantastic that i kept looking at it on my phone, and unknowingly, i thought  i have already put it online.

First up is the BUTTER CRABS!!

Creamy butter and meaty crab!!!! OMG.... The pincers are at least 3-finger wide. With the warm melted butter on the meat, it is totally insane not to eat it with one bite!! This is a to-die-for dish.. MUST TRY

Next, bamboo clams

2 bamboo clams, with lots of garlic and parsley. The meat is rather tough and eat it while it's hot. So so only.

Next, 2 abalones with scallops, mushrooms and broccoli

Recommended by the waitress. It's quite expensive, but nevertheless, it's very yummy. The abalones are well cooked and they are not tough(which is good). Big juicy mushrooms and fresh broccoli to freshen up your taste buds when you find that chewing on the abalone becomes a bit boring.  The gravy plays an important in this dish. This dish worth a try.

Finally, 全家福 with the toasted buns. Although one of the abalone has fallen into my stomach...

With all these incredible, unbelievable, delicious seafood, what you need is........老板来两碗饭!

The damage for the dinner:

I wasn't the one footing the bill, so i don't feel the pain in heart. Hahaha.. Thanks for the dinner.

Rating: 8/10
With air-con and slightly cheaper price will make this place a perfect one for seafood dinning.

A small yet famous traditional kopitiam situated in the middle of the stretch of shophouses, right beside Gelare at 11 Upper East road.

Our coffee is specially concocted from Columbian Arabica coffee beans, which are premium coffee beans rich in flavour and body, imported directly from Colombia. The Colombian Arabica coffee beans are blended with Robusta coffee beans from Indonesia to create an alluring aroma and mesmerizing taste. Our coffee beans are then roasted with a special recipe, in traditional Hainanese style.

Our tea is made from specially selected top quality tea dust from Sri Lanka, which we have consistently been using since the humble beginnings of our shop. Of course, good coffee beans and tea dust is not sufficient. It takes skillful brewers to make extraordinary cups of coffee and tea!

Taken from:http://www.killiney-kopitiam.com/menu.html

Although i don't really know how to appreciate coffee, but by judging the number of old folks coming in just for a small cup of 'kopi' or 'kopi-c', i dare to say that there must be some standard in their coffee, in order to attract all the 'professionals' here.

Came here during lunch time, had Penang Friend Kway Teow and Curry Chicken with bread with Karen, before we started studying in Starbucks.

I preferred Penang style Fried Kway Teow to the normal black Fried Kway Teow.  Penang Fried Kway Teow uses thin and long Kway Teow and it's white colour. I think more eggs are added in too. Normal Fried Kway Teow uses short and thick Kway Teow, black and maybe less egg?

I love the curry chicken they served. The curry is thick enough but still quite watery for you to dip with your bread or 'pei' rice. The chicken meat is totally cooked to a state where the meat will just drop off from the bones once you bite it. Yummy!!

Given the standard of the food, it is worth the money you spend.

A brief introduction about Carnivore first.

The second project from CHIJMES’ dining concept arm, Starworth Pte Ltd, comes in the form of Carnivore, a Brazilian Churrascaria. This restaurant opened its doors on 15 October 2004 , and promises an informal and fun dining-out experience. Located at in the heart of the city at CHIJMES, this is the only Churrascaria restaurant where diners can dine under the stars.

Churrascaria is Portuguese for barbecue. The atmosphere at Carnivore is fun, relaxed, simple and understated . Our knife-welding Passadors (meat waiters) come to your table and slice the meat from large skewers onto your plates. At Carnivore, the meats are marinated and cooked over fire till perfection. Our Brazilian chefs will pamper you with an array of meats – beef, pork, chicken, lamb and fish. A special selection of meats like crocodile, wild boar and ostrich is available during festive seasons.

Reference:http://www.carnivore.com.sg/About/index.asp

The second outlet is located at Vivocity. Good view facing the sea and Sentosa. Even better at night with the romantic lighting and music.

Although it is just a dinner, but i think we sure did enjoyed ourselves to the MAX. Especially me!! Wahaha...
It was quite a last min meet up for Jie Hua's belated birthday dinner. We were, initially still deciding between Habour City Restarant(at PSA Builiding) or Carnivore (vivocity) when  Racheal and Jasilyn both have very strong objection towards going to Habour City. So the poor guys( Jie Hua, Soverynn and me) will have to just  follow along.

We went there on 15 Jan, reached around 8PM. Not very crowded. The friendly waiteress walked us to our tables, and explained to us how the GREEN/RED Coaster works. Each customer is given a two-color (red and green), coaster-size chip and you keep it on the table top. The idea is very clever and simple: if you want more meat, flip the green side up, and  if you don't want any more meat,  flip the red side up!

A few passadors (meat waiters) will be walking around the tables with a skewer and knife in hand and offer you a variety of different cuts of beef, chicken, fish, pork, and lamb. You can try all the different cuts of meat as they come around! They are all very friendly. Indeed an excellent place to dine with friends with family. There are around 12 types of meat served here. By the time you finished trying all 12, you are almost there. Oh, try their roasted pineapple. Like what the name suggested, it's roasted. So it will be hot, sweet and sour. Worth trying if you are a pineapple lover.

Try their sauages.
Try the chicken hearts.
Try the lamb.
Try the fish fillet.

Try EVERYTHING!!!!

The appertizers include salad, baby octupus, potato salad,
homemade Capsicum Vinaigrette and some others that i cant really remember.

My favorite Chicken Thigh. Common yet succulent

See the Green-Red Coaster-size Chip?

The man on my t shirt wants to eat too...
Got this t shirt from my friend's push-kart at Junction 8. Her name is Irene. She's selling all the printed-on bling bling Tee's for less than $30.
Take a look at all the designs at her push cart at J8, beside bodyshop. Cute. Stylish. Emo.

All in all, I had my stoamch stuffed up all the way to my throat, and couldn't sleep just because i too full. The next morning, i skipped my breakfast and lunch too.  The meats are still inside my stomach..

Paying a price of $42++ on a weekday night, $45++ on a weekend night, I will have to say that I am totally satisfied with the quality,  variety of choices available, friendly services provided, and the cozy environment. I am very happy with my stomach too as it did not fail to make the money worthwhile.. Wahahahah.. But i think i will go there maybe once or maximum 2 times in a year. Reason being buffet is really bad for health and body. haha..

If you dream it, we can ice cream it.

That's the slogan of Cold Rock cafe. This is an Australian concept ice -cream, cafe. I think it has been in town for quite sometime already. Those who frequent holland village will know best.

Basically you just choose a maximum 2 ice cream flavors. There's around 20 choices of them. Then choose what you wanna add into the ice cream. They have Mars chocolate bar, Ferrero,  nuts, Hershey's chocolate syrup , waffle cones, brownies and a lot more. The 'chef' will then 'fried' them on a frozen stone table top , mashing the toppings and the ice cream together using couple of steel spatulas. The whole idea works more or less like SUBWAY, going from one station to another.

Ask them to let you try the flavors if you unsure of what to eat. It's free any way. Stella and Edward are good at that. Hahaha..

We were at Wala Wala before that. Heard that Jack and Rai are going to be there to sing. I think they are quite good. But too bad, we didnt stay long because Stella's mouth starting to get itchy, and wanted to eat ice cream. There's this father and son, who seems to get high over every single song. Grooving to the music. Damn cute sia. I want to do that with my dad and mom too.Haha....

I always had fun talking and crapping with them.

I was here the other time with my anther friend. Short and Sweet memory ^.^

Cold Rock Cafe is located at Lorong Mambong, Holland Village.
The smallest cup is the kid size, cost around $4.50. It would be more worth it to take the small take home pack($11) if there are 2 of you.
The topping cost $1 extra each.

There is another shop in upper east coast road which have the same idea too, but they are not related in any way. The Ice Cream Chef. Tried once. Will tell you all more next time because i forgot to tell pictures of that. Argh...

This small humble eating 'hut' is located in Parco Bugis, opposite Bossini. Their specialty is probably their fried rice with chicken wings and chilli, which is not spicy not all. It's quite crowded during evening time and i think it can hold maximum around 30 people at a time.

Tried their fried rice and chicken rice, bubble tea and green tea. Very simple dinner. And this was all the way back in july 2008.

*Went to bugis today(210109), and realised that the shop has been taken over by either starhub or Apple. Anyone who knows where did it shifted to, let me know  ^.^

Hip Diner (HD) is somehow associated with Billy bombers(BB) . BUT, BB is 10000000zillion times better than HD. The food in HD is nothing fantastic. Small portion and pricey. The only thing i like is their PVC chair and slight retro-ness in the cafe. That's it. Nothing else in this particular cafe fascinate me.

Service was quite bad too. Slow and not really enthusiastic. Pricey. Small portion of food. Don't really taste that great too.

If you ever noticed that when you bypass HD in cineleisure, it is quite empty most of the time.
That must be a reason for that. Think it through.

4 Plates of Mashed Rojak

Does this even look like a seafood platter for 2? Why is there corn in the sea?? AND the portion is too small for 2 person la..
My jaws dropped to the floor when the waitress said that this a seafood platter for 2.
Totally nonsense!!

I remembered the first time i came to this Tim Sum restaurant was very long time ago. It was back in 2006. The night before i flew to Bangkok for a short holiday with my friends. Since then, i have come here numerous times.

It is located somewhere off Jalan Besar Road. Opposite of New World Centre.

This place provides both air-conditioned space and al-fresco dining. I think it's quite famous as there will still be crowd no matter what time you patronize the shop. Some of my friends also knew about this place and came here with her parents quite often. If i'm not wrong, it opens 24hr. Very simple layout and fast service. Wide range of baos, side dishes, porridge, and tonnes of miscellaneous dishes. haha..

Let me show you what i mean...

I went to Sushi Tei Vivocity somewhere in October 08. Although i have never try it before, i have quite a high expectation of it, because it is not really that economical compared to Sakae Sushi.

Well, it didn't let me down.

I have to say that the restaurant got an excellent view of Sentosa and a bit of the sea. The interior was quite nicely done up, giving you a very cosy experience. Food was slightly pricy, but still affordable. At least the presentation are good and appertizing.

Salmon fish head- one of my favourite dish in japanese food.
It was a very good experience at the restuarant. My stomach is happy. I am happy. That is what really matters...
Wandering when can i go back again to enjoy their delicious dishes...

Every Year just comes and goes. For me, nothing much was done during 2008. Basically, more of studying and gym. Lots of things happened. A mixture of both happy and sad occasions. People come and go. Everything changes, including love. They just fuc*ing change, without any warning.

My mind is now trapped in the past. Really hoping to move on to the present. And see some light in the near future.

I'm listening to 'FM static-Tonight' and 'Haley Bennett - Way Back Into Love'. They can really describe my feelings now.

I'm glad that at least my dad, mum, Joy and some of my good friends are there for me when i needed them badly. Thanks a lot. Love you people.

My 2009 New year Resolutions
1. To get at least 3A's for my this coming exam in May.
2. To achieve gold for IPPT before CNY is over.

Newton Food Centre has come a long way, transforming from a dirty, old, smoky place to the now classy with  Al-fresco dining experience. It is a place famous for the food, the fighting, the over-priced food, and the tourists.

Everytime when i come here, it will remind me of my childhood: The smoky environment, the blood i shed if i was careless,  the cute japanese girls who took pictures with me, the stinky shirt after work.

I spent most of my childhood time over there, to help my dad with his fruit juice stall. Sometimes, when I'm feeling sleepy, i would have to sleep at the hawker table. I don't have the luxury of sleeping on my bed at home in the afternoon. Poor me. I was a mosquito magnet too! Free buffet for the mozzi every afternoon. I remembered that i have to peel one box of oranges everyday, which is more than 60 of them in one box. OMG. Cut whatever fruit that is needed. I was the main person in the stall, because I'm the one who do the cutting and my dad and mum will serve the customers. So maybe some of you have tried the fruits prepared by me before. haha..

Usually i will have to stay till around 10pm before i can go home to rest. My mum and me will leave while my dad will continue his work through the night til 4 or 5 in morning. EVERYDAY. They have work hard enough.

I will definitely give them the best and let them retired the soonest i can!

Thinking:  ~Really hope to go back there soon, to see the uncles and aunties that i know, and eat my favorite sting ray...

All these look very ordinary, but they are the ones that are worth trying. But make sure you look for the right stall, if not, you will become their 'carrot head'

"During a date with his girlfriend while still in college, they came across a famous French restaurant that was serving 7-course set meal. Mr Huang really wanted to dine in, but at $100 per set, the price was beyond what he could afford at that moment. This incident sparked off his idea of opening a restaurant that serves full 7-courses set meals at a price that will be affordable for everyone."

That's how Tao's restaurant started. From a young man's simple idea of fulfilling everyone's stomach at a affordable price, Mr Huang now has a total of 4 outlets, which includes 1 in Australia. The 3 restaurants in Singapore are Juju Hokkaido Hotpot (Paradiz Centre), Dozo fine modern japanesque (Valley point shopping centre) and Tao's modern pacific crusine (Paradiz Centre).

Bacon & Mushroom Gratin
is the appertizer. It doesn’t look appetizing to us at first, but to our surprise this came out really good, coupled with the soft yet fluffy bread, combine together give a unique taste.

Ham and Spud Salad

Fruit Salad is rather special because the fruits are cut and stacked in a cylinder shape.

Grilled Mushrooms- Juicy and sweet

Cream of Pumpkin

Tea? No..
This is fish soup in a tea pot. very creative way of presenting right?
The soup isn’t  fishy which makes it a good appetizer.

Ice rose appletea - scent of rose, the taste of apple (because there are apples in it)
Lavender tea - fragrance of the lavender filled my heart.

One corner shop sitting quietly at Central@Clarke Quay. You never know what they can offer to the ladies(and some guys) out there until you step into the cafe.

Paisley & Cream is a visually-enticing cafe with eye-catching decor and a funky concept. White PVC couch and dining chairs, pink wall and paisley stenciled patterns on the glass walls gives you the feeling that you wouldn't find in any other boring cafe.Antique posters of Lucille Ball and older movie stars are hang on the pink wall, adding to the retro-ness and the funky-ness of the whole cafe.

It offers a wide range of cheesecakes, cupcakes which will only make you go crazy and spoiled of choices. The bright color of the cupcakes will definitely catch your attention and stomach. However, they go easy on your wallet.
